Ukuleles On The Beach For Maui

Aloha! My wonderfully talented friend Michelle Mangione and the one and only Grace Slick have teamed up once again and have written a song called "Lahaina Shine" to help families affected by the Maui fires. On Sunday, November 12th, the community gathered on Grenada Beach in Long Beach to record a video singing and playing ukuleles to the chorus of this new song. 100% of the proceeds have be donated directly to families in Maui. I'm pleased to announce that they have surpassed $15,000.00 in donations! You can download the video here. Mahalo!

The girls, Trish Burke Manser, Tricia Freeman, and I, along with our fantastic band mates Brian Pothier, Buzzy James, Jorgen Ingmar, David Weeks-Wynne, Jon Grillo, and Dave Goode had a great time rocking the Gaslamp in Long Beach on April 8th with our third "Women Who Rock" show.  Jennifer Corday opened the evening with a wonderful acoustic set. It was a full house! Thanks to all of you who came out!

I am so happy to be associated with the Women’s Journey Foundation, and was excited to be involved in last year’s production of Making HERStory on March 12th.

The Women’s Journey Foundation has been lifting up women and girls of all ages through education, empowerment and engagement for many years now. Their work is so important and has made a positive difference in so many lives.

Last year, Making HERStory celebrated women in music history, in a fascinating, enlightening and entertaining musical that showcased the important contributions women have made in the world of music. I performed musical portrayals of Joan Baez, Alanis Morrisette, Shania Twain, and Carole King.

The show was held at Campus Jax (3950 Campus Drive, Newport Beach, CA 92660) . You can check out the Women's Journey Foundation and the wonderful work they do here; https://womensjourneyfoundation.org

The 19th Annual Orange County Children's Book Festival invited Brian Pothier and I to perform on October 2nd, on their “Entertainment Stage.”

Last year, a co-founder of the Orange County Children’s Book Festival, Pat Burns, asked me to write a song to accompany an important new learning initiative called “STEAM: Race to Space Reading Challenge” (STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics). So, I enlisted the help of my better half, John Diggins, and we wrote a song we called “Read, Read, Read.” It was a hit with the STEAM team, and Pat asked us to perform it at this year’s Book Festival.

You can check out our song, which was produced and recorded by Brian, here: https://www.readsteam.org/teacher-resources And ya gotta check out some of the authors, illustrators, filmmakers, actors, scientists, engineers and entertainers that participated in this year's festival: https://www.kidsbookfestival.com
