My dear friend and sister-from-another-mister the fabulously talented Mare Wakefield and I wrote a new song inspired by our current quarantine situation and we made a video of it, too! We wanted to bring a little levity to these trying times, and also just capture some of what we’re all going through. It's called "What Day is This?" I hope it brings you a smile, or perhaps even a chuckle. The enormously talented Nomad Ovunc, played on the song, performed in the video, did the recording, as well as the video production and editing. Wow! Also, a huge thanks to my sweet friend, Michelle Mangione, who helped with my socially-distanced guitar and vocal recording. You can check out "What Day Is This?" on my "Videos" page.
I hope this finds you and yours safe and in good health during this difficult time. I’ve missed seeing all of your smiling faces over the past several weeks.
Many of us musicians have been trying to come up with creative ways to stay connected and play for our peeps, despite the challenging sound quality on our computers. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve had a few requests to play for some birthday parties and special events via Zoom. Sorta like a Virtual House Concert (VHC). Doing those VHCs was a blast and it felt so good to play again! (And I discovered I was actually able to get a half-decent sound in that forum.) Well, it’s been over a month since I've played for you all, so I thought I’d toss out the idea of doing VHCs for you and your family and friends. If we did one, it would be your party, so you would invite all the guests, you would control the “call,” and I would play music for y'all. And like an actual live gig, I’d be happy to take requests.
Like so many of my fellow musicians, I’ve had all my gigs cancelled for the foreseeable future, but I know I’m not alone. There are so many people struggling right now and it doesn't feel right to put a price on one of these VHCs, so any virtual parties I do would be free of charge. And yet, some of you have asked me whether I have a virtual tip jar. Well, I do, and if you were so inclined, you could “throw” a tip into my VTJ via Paypal or Venmo. In these bleak times, it would be greatly appreciated.
So, if you're interested, feel free to send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can set up a date and time for your virtual party. And of course, you're welcome to send over any requests in advance of the party. I've been writing a lot of new songs lately and if you like, I can play some new tunes for y’allz!
I’m really looking forward to seeing you all on the other side of this. Till then, stay well and for heaven's sake keep washing your hands! Sending lots of love and positive vibes your way.
I WAS Looking forward to opening for this super cool all-female country quintet "Mustangs Of The West" on April 1st at Campus Jax in Newport Beach for their album release,"Time". Hope to connect with these lovely ladies on the other side of this pandemic, and play a show together.
I was honored to be a part of the Making HERstory event on March 7th, 2020. This was an inspirational evening paying tribute to the women who helped pave the way for all of us. Making HERstory honors the past, embraces the present, and supports the future of women. That evening, I performed two songs, one of which I wrote specifically for the event.
The Women's Journey Foundation also honored Dolores Huerta with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Dolores is a civil rights activist and community organizer who has worked for labor rights and social justice for over 50 years.
It was a full evening of performances, music, dialogue, interactive exhibits and celebration to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the passing of the 19th amendment to the constitution. Thank you all for coming out and supporting this important event!
